"A Mote to Trouble the Mind's Eye" (New Haven, CT)

The dominant logic of the site is a fleeting and shifting irresolution, an untenable state of frisson – a result of a series of extant visual barriers, blank imposing walls that create an overwhelming feeling of exteriority. This project represents an attempt to enhance this site reading, rather than subverting it in favor of a more conventional reestablishment of interior-exterior and figure-ground. That is to say, this project attempts to accentuate instability and avoid the establishment of cosmological directionality; rather the project aims to filter space without manifesting itself as a concrete presence, or quantifiable, calculatable entity. In the same way that a lens can focus or obscure vision, the project dwells in ambiguity, providing both concentrated, clarified reality and obfuscated, confused dislocation.
